Last week, we looked at the first two steps in getting the right SEO started. They were, choosing the right keyphrases and Web page optimization, which involves identifying keyphrases that have at least three words and best define and outline your site.

An example of a keyphrase would be, “Athenian Marble Table Topps,” “Mediterranean Marble Table Tops,” “Vietnamese Cuisine,” “Vietnamese Restaurant San Francisco,” ” Vietnamese Cuisine Fine Dining,” “Affordable HD Flat Screens,” “Lowest Priced HD Flat Screens,” “Lowest Priced Flat Screens Brooklyn.” I hope these examples give you a picture of what keyphrasing should look like.

When you have picked the keyphrases that you feel are the best and will represent your site accurately, then it ‘s time to optimize your Web site for those phrases. Optimizing the Web site pages is done by strategically placing your keyphrases within the pages of your site and should have a keyphrase; first and foremost, that is part of the title for the beginning page of your site.

The title, on the Web page is of the utmost importance, because it is what the search engines will display as a linking text pertaining to the result of a search. The main keyphrases must be included in your title and should describe your business accurately, which should entice readers to click on it.

If your business is large and well known, then it is appropriate to use your company name in the page title, but if you are a small to medium size company, you should not start your web page title with the name of your company. Instead, you should start your title with the words search engine users will most likely use, meaning your keyphrases. The title should be at least eight words or less and should contain the main keyphrase for maximum prominence and proximity. The second keyphrase that you will use should be placed somewhere else in the title, so as not to detract from the main keyphrase. Using your keyphrases densely, on your web page, will help the search engine to determine your page topic and create a better environment by which your site will receive more viewers.

Here are some final tips that you should use, as much as possible, and be assured, they will help search engines identify your Web page’s correlation to your chosen keyphrases. They are: Use keyphrases several times, and place them as close to the top of the page as possible; in the first two paragraphs of your page, place your keyphrases between Header Tags; your keyphrases should appear in bold-type phase at least once; Repetition of your keyphrases often will increase your keyphrase density; and Repeating your keyphrases between 5 to 10 times for every 100 words in your page is considered effective.

It is tremendously important not to repeat your keyphrases often because this could tend to make your text sound awkward, which could deter visitors from coming to your site. Remember, people coming to your site should be able to read your page easily and ultimately, it is your readers who will determine if your page is worth spending time reading.

It is the pleasure derived from the reading experience that will make readers more likely to come back and that’s exactly what you want and need. There are other areas of designing a good SEO that you should know. I have given you the basics, but I would urge you to go on line and seek out more information for yourself. Here is a great group that does exceptional work in the area of Search Engine Optimization, www.GuruCorporation.com and their local. Having said all the aforementioned, to include the previous columns, it is now time for you to get started on your own SEO and I hope you have fun making it happen!
