The Web Optimization Sequence Domain Names Keepersacc Tips About E
Its easy to think that all good domain names are taken; sure, the easy and obvious ones are taken, but that doesnt mean that there isnt the perfect .com domain name out there for your business/blog.
Whether youre a business, blogger, or anything inbetween, selecting your domain name can be a tedious process. Those of you who have already attempted searching for the perfect domain name know what I am talking about. You go through dozens, if not hundreds of different options, looking for just the right one. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when youre choosing your domain name:
Keep it Short
Short domain names are usually the hardest to find. Unless youre willing to break the bank, give up on the dream of having your company initials as your domain name. But that doesnt mean you cant find just the right short domain name for you. You dont need something as short as three characters, but generally, I wouldnt go above three words.
Your own preference may differ, but remember, the longer your domain name, the less memorable it will be for your visitors, making it more difficult to pass around via word of mouth or in casual conversation.
Make it Memorable
As I mentioned briefly above, you want your domain name to be as memorable as possible. If you want your customers to be able to tell their colleagues or friends where to go for great products/services, your domain name needs to be memorable.
When people are trying to get a short domain name, they might use abbreviations, or numbers in place of words, ie. how2losew8.com or something similar. Now imagine you are a customer of how2losew8.com, and you wanted to tell your friend about how amazing this website is. It would take more effort to explain about the numbers in place of letters, and isnt really as memorable as howtoloseweight.com would be. So, try and keep a balance between keeping your domain name short and memorable.
Keywords
Without making your domain name too long and un-memorable, try to include some of your main keywords. The domain name is obviously the most powerful place to put keywords, but dont make a 6 word domain name, just to ensure your main keywords are included.
Alternate Domains
Once youve found the perfect domain name for your business, dont just stop there. You may consider buying the .net, .info, .org versions. Also, you could include typos of your domain, ie. If your site was mywebsite.com, you might want to buy the mywebste.com domain name. With all of the alternate domains you buy, make sure these use a 301 redirect to your main domain.
