The first link on Google gets the most traffic

For many B2B firms, a majority of their leads are generated through search engines, making B2B SEO especially important. A new study released by Chiticka has revealed just how important it is for B2B companies to own the first search result spot.

According to the survey, the top spot generates two times as much traffic as the second result and almost as much as the top five results combined. The first link receives 34 percent of the total traffic while the remainder of the top five generate 42 percent, says the report.

The biggest difference, though, is between the first and second page. The study shows that after the first page of search results, there is a 143 percent drop off in traffic. The second page of search results generates very little traffic.

Though the study only took Google into account, it’s not unreasonable to think that other search engines, such as Bing and Yahoo, would show similar results.

Firms that focus on more real-time search results may want to consider putting their B2B SEO budget into Google Caffeine. According to a recent survey conducted by Irbtrax, 75 percent of B2B websites are not optimized for Google Caffeine.ADNFCR-1844-ID-19805991-ADNFCR
