Will The New Twitter Url Shortener Have An Effect On Website Positioning?

Twitter is now testing a URL shortener to give subscribers more options.
In using Twitter, size does matter especially for shortening web links in a 140-character limit.
The new shortener, named t.co, should be available to users by summer and it will automatically shorten links.
Twitter developers hope that the shortener will also reduce Spam. According to the social media site, Twitters link service at http://t.co is used to better protect users from malicious sites that engage in spreading malware, phishing attacks, and other harmful activity. A link converted by Twitters link service is checked against a list of potentially dangerous sites. When theres a match, users can be warned before they continue.
Experts say that it might affect search engine optimization (SEO), saying the URLs may slow things down. With more 301 redirects, experts fear that search engines will be slower in picking up and passing it through.
