Running A Blog: Essential And Crucial To Your Social Media Marketing Plan

June 16th, 2010

Writing a blog (formerly web log, we need to shorten everything!) is so very important when it comes to digital (Internet) marketing.
It is one of the more important tasks to perform, if not the most important, for your social media marketing plan.
There are many reasons that this is true, and were going to start with the main one: SEO.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
As you write your blog, you are using words that relate not only to your topic, but also to your business.
These words, or “keywords,” are recognized by web crawlers or bots. Consequently, your blog is made visible to anyone who uses any of those keywords in a search, and more importantly, anyone looking for information pertaining to your industry.
This achievement can be assisted, to a degree, by your viewers linking to your blog on their Facebook and Twitter pages. The more fans and followers that you have, the greater the opportunity you have for a substantial amount of linking.
An additional bonus here is the fact that you will become more and more visible to your viewers networks of fans, and followers.
Social linking, however, as helpful as it may be, is surpassed by anyone reposting your blog to his or her blog and social bookmarking (Digg, StumbleUpon, etc.) sites. Every time this occurs, your SEO benefits.
In a nutshell, if you write a well-informed, detailed, interesting blog, it will undoubtedly do wonders for you in your search engine rankings.

Regular Blogging Important
Blogging on a regular basis on topics of interest or importance to your area of expertise is a proven way to establish yourself as somewhat of an expert in your field.
This will lend credibility to your blog, to your company, and most importantly, to you. Giving your audience informative, interesting information on a regular basis will also earn you a dedicated audience, and having a devoted following when it comes to social media marketing is like having a golden ticket to a candy factory.
So, on that note, be knowledgeable, be insightful, be current, and you will be respected.

Engage Your Viewers
Blogging also helps you engage your viewers. By giving them interesting, thought provoking material to read, you can create a dialogue between you and your audience via replies to and comments on your blog.
